News > 2nd place in the team relay at the European Championships
The first time in me career I was representing Switzerland in the team race at the Europeans. To be on the podium was the goal.
With Thomas Litscher (U23), Nathalie Schneitter (Elite Woman) and Lars Forster (Junior) we had a really good team. Litscher did the start followed by Forster and Schneitter. After my three teammates gave everything it was my part to do. The Italians had the woman in the last lap. So it was already a big gap to close. But I had to concentrate to the French rider. Together with Marotte I went on the course.
At he first 100 meter I tried to save some energy. But in the first climb the French improved the speed that much that I nearly lost the contact. In the following short climbs I could hold his wheel. After I short downhill there was another uphill. I passed him there and tried to make a gap but he was still on my wheel. On the top of the climb we chatched the Italian.
So now we fought for gold. It happened nothing in the downhill. On the last kilometers there were always short strait parts where I had to ride that fast that he couldn't pass me but not to fast to save energy. All the short sprints mad me tired that I wasn't anymore really fresh on the final 300 meters. First I tried to go fast but I had no chance to win the race.
